Playing in the RAIN
7/4/2010 10:32:57 PM

July 1st, 2010

We have continued with our city outreach project on thursdays with playing soccer with some of the street boys near where they sleep. This thursday we played in the rain, though a lot of boys were seraching for shelter and food, we had an equal amount of boys and was the funnest thursday since we started. It started out being a joke when the Mlungus (white people) would play soccer but now since we have been playing every week, our skills are improving and now the boys hold NOTHING back!! Our feet ache everytime we leave because we are not used to playing barefoot on sand full of rocks, broken glass, and other things that cut and bruise your feet. But we loving doing this ministry with the boys and each week we see more and more new faces. Please continue to pray for the boys, for protection, wisdom, guidance in their lives. This time of year it is really COLD and the boys are freezing, so just pray for warmth over them as they sleep.

Thanks guys!

Update
6/29/2010 1:12:28 AM

Hey Guys,               June 29th, 2010

Sorry I haven't updated our blog and whats new with the project but I just got back from the states and I have been kinda out of the loop myself. But this will be a quick overview of the last couple of months. Wehave been working with Ambassador of Sports, who specializes with training coaches in order to mix in soccer with biblical teaching. who has trained some of our friends as coaches for the upcoming soccer clinic in July. The training went well and the boys are practicing their training on Thursdays and Saturdays. On thursdays and saturdays we usually have 40 to 50 kids that show up to play soccer, which has turned out to be amazing. Other than that, Masana is doing awesome we keep getting more and more kids everyday, which is a good and bad thing because its a good thing cuz the boys are coming to Masana but a bad thing because there are soo many boys on the the street. But please continue to pray for guidance with the last needed stuff for the Soccer Clinic.. Thanks for your support again!

MASANA MOVED IN
6/29/2010 12:54:11 AM

Hey Guys, May 5th, 2010

MASANA IS MOVING IN!!!!!

After 3 months of working to get the property ready, Masana
has finally moved to its new home. The new area is complete with 2 separate classrooms, a kitchen, a shelter for meals
and church services, showers, a station for washing clothes,
and a room for temporary housing. We had a party to
celebrate Masana's new home, which came along with some
GOOD food! A couple of the leaders from the community
came and gave speeches welcoming Masana to the
neighborhood. We were a bit worried about how the
transition would go as its a bit farther for the boys to walk
each day. But it hasn't even been an issue as we've had over
27 boys each day so far this week!!! Now we just need a
bigger pot for cooking rice to feed that many!!!

We are soo excited to have Masana as apart of the house and
cant wait to see what the future has in store!!!

Praise and Worship
4/29/2010 2:12:44 PM

Hey Guys,                               April 29, 2010

Today was an exhausting day, Steve finished up desks and tables for Masana, while Sarah took the boy who has been staying with us back to the doctor. Then we helped a boy, that we helped take home, register for school. Then we went to help Masana move all of their stuff to the house. Then we went and played soccer at one of the local parks near the beach with about 25 street boys, then came back and had praise and worship with some of our neighborhood friends. Such a long day!! Even on days that we are so busy, God still shines, like for instance, the last time we had worship at our house, we sang and prayed on the roof patio outside. Some of the boys were a little concerned about disturbing the neighborhood that is right behind our patio. Though we continued to sing and and pray not knowing what God was stirring up in the hearts of the families behind us. I was visiting one of the families that lives in the neighborhood behind, and asked me if i had a party at my house or what was that music what was coming from my house yesterday. I then replied, " We usually meet with our friends and have a mini church by singing and praying about the city of Maputo, why?" She then told me that her and her family sat outside and enjoyed listening to the music that we were singing. Even through the tiny moments like these, God really is stirring up the hearts of this community! Please continue to pray for us and Masana, as Masana starts on Monday, and pray that the community that we are in will except the street kids in their neighborhood, and that the street kids will really know that all this house is for them. Thanks guys for your prayers!! Took a lot of pictures, will update tomorrow!! Good night!

Moving
4/29/2010 12:01:37 AM

Hey Yall,                               April 28, 2010

Today one of Sarah's friends are moving back to New Zealand, so we spent all day moving and helping them pack in order to move. It seems like everytime we help someone pack to move, we end up with move stuff that we in the end needed. Also, there was a boy that came to Masana that was sick, Dinisce, and he has Malaria. So he is going to be staying with us until he is better. Also one more thing, we are moving Masana on the property tomorrow because Masana's first day here is on Monday May 3rd. So we are extremly excited!! Ok please pray for Dinisce, and his recovery, and also pray for Masana as they make the transition to our house.

Soccer in AFRICA
4/24/2010 5:26:26 AM

Hey Everyone,                     April 24, 2010

Friday morning we meet with a man, Daniel, who works here in Maputo with an organization called Ambassadors in Sport. The heart of their ministry is to use soccer as an evangelism tool to reach out to different kids. They currently have teams in some of the local communities just outside of Maputo. They work through local churches to train up coaches who then are able to start teams and hold different clinics. Throughout the weekly practices of soccer, the coaches use halftime to share principles about Christ using principles of how to play soccer. Daniel has agreed to start helping us use evangelism amongst the street kids we work with. Please pray for us as we begin to work with Ambassadors IN sports. Pray THAT WE will find the leadership amongst people we know. We are extremely excited about beginning this type of ministry amongst these kids. Like I said before Soccer in Africa is a huge part of these boys lives. Pray that Christ will come alive in these boys and that they will have a true understanding of who he is.    -Alexis

Street Kid Outreach
4/24/2010 5:24:19 AM

Hey YalL,                                     April 22, 2010

So we finally have a date that Masana is planning on moving onto the property, May 3rd. YAY!!!!! We are making the final adjustments within this upcoming week. The back patio is complete so if it rains one day, the rain won’t inhibit Masana. Once Masana is on the property there will be street kids coming daily for meals, showers, education and most importantly to experience the love of Christ.

Today was a very interesting day, usually on every other Thursday we have some of our Mozambican friends come over to our house and we eat dinner, sing songs, and pray for the city together. But on the other Thursdays that we don’t do this we started an outreach project with the street boys. We went down to a park that is near where most boys sleep and played soccer for a couple of hours and then shared a short message to the boys. I am really excited to start doing this because soccer is such an important sport to these boys and I feel if we try and reach out to them this way, they will eventually connect with who Christ is. Please continue to pray for the boys we work with, and just that the language barrier wont stop us from truly shinning as lights of Christ to them.      –Alexis

Painting
4/24/2010 5:19:08 AM

Hey everyone,                                                 April 5, 2010

We recently had a team from Durban, South Africa that came to help paint the back area that will soon be the new space for Masana. The team was a great group to work with and they really lifted our spirits. For a couple of months now, we have been watching TKH transform into we could have never imagined. The back area has been transformed to have a kitchen, a set of classrooms, a bathroom with 3 showers, a game room, and a bedroom. With this recent team that visited, we are now a little closer to completing the space for Masana and most importantly that much closer to truly impacting these boys’ lives.   Alexis
